Did you know that there are cute baby contests, that are not only completely free to enter, but that pay out up to $2500 cash prizes every month as well.  Wouldn’t it be cool if you could win one of those prizes just for showing off your bundle of joy?  Of course!

But can your baby win a free picture competition?  I can’t guarantee anything for certain, but why not try… there is nothing at all to lose.

Here are my  3 best strategies for increasing your chances.

#1. Enter as often as possible. Many of these contests allow you to enter multiple photos once a month.  Since your baby is growing so fast (and always changing) enter him as often as you are allowed.  This will greatly increase your chances of winning the cash prizes that are given away.

#2. Use personality poses. These are often the types of pictures that get the most votes.  You know the kind of photos I mean.  The ones where your baby is smearing food on her face, or laughing his head off, or just plain being silly.  In fact, it is often true that the sillier the picture is, the more people like it, especially when it comes to babies.

#3.  Have fun with it. If you have a baby I’m sure you’ve met at least a few moms and dads who take things a tad too seriously.  Remember, when you are entering these photos to enjoy yourself and your baby.  That is after all the most important thing.

Baby Bathing Tips For Your New Born

Bathing a newborn baby can be a traumatic event for a first time Mom. Newborns can seem so fragile, and wet, slippery ones downright frightening. But, don’t fear; once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel like a pro. Newborns only need to be bathed two or three times a week – bathing more often can result in dry skin.

First of all, it’s important not to put your newborn in any sort of bathtub until her umbilical cord has fallen off. If your baby is circumcised, you need to wait until this has healed, as well. Until then, give your baby a sponge bath.

When it’s time to put baby in the tabletop tub, give her your undivided attention. Leaving her for even a minute can literally be fatal. Turn the answering machine on and ignore the doorbell. Never run the bath water with the baby in the tub. Fill the tub and check the temperature before you add the baby.

Be prepared for the fact that your baby will not like the bath. There may be a lot of crying, so plan to make it as short as possible. Also, the bath water gets cold to the baby rather quickly; another reason to make it quick. One trick to help keep the water warm is to soak a towel in very warm water and lay it in the bottom of the tub. This keeps the water warmer, provides a nice cushion for baby, and keeps her from slipping around. Keep one hand under her head to support her neck, and keep her from slipping into the tub. Speak to her in soft soothing tones, reassuring her that everything is ok.

Use lukewarm water on your baby’s tender skin, and only soaps and shampoos designed for babies. In fact, during the first few weeks of life, until you’ve determined if your baby has any skin allergies, it might be wise to bathe her using only water, especially on her face. Have a towel and diaper ready to wrap her in immediately when you’re finished, to avoid her getting chilled.

As your baby gets older, bath time will probably become a favorite part of the day for your baby.

4 Must Know Tips Every Parent Should Know

New parents face many problems and issues that they are expected to know and deal with immediately. Unfortunately, newborns do not come with an instruction book so here are a few topics that you may need to know about.

Bathing your baby: Until your baby’s umbilical cord falls off one to two weeks after their birth, only give her sponge baths. A cotton ball or cotton swab dampened with alcohol can help to dry the umbilical stump or follow your pediatrician’s directions. After the stump falls off, you can give him a bath in a sink or shallow tub.

Caesarian delivery: A caesarian is usually performed to make delivery safer for you or your baby. C-sections can be done for many different reasons including stalled labor, complicated labor, problems with the baby that may make delivery hard, or other problems. It does not matter if you deliver vaginally or by a caesarian section, you are still a mother with a gorgeous new blessing.

Circumcision: Many doctors agree that there may be some benefit to circumcision, but it may not be absolutely necessary. It may help to lower the risk of urinary tract infections and eliminates just about any chance of penile cancer. Circumcision does not cause long-term emotional problems for your child.

Crib death (SIDS): Many studies have been done regarding SIDS. Although the cause of SIDS has not been certainly defined, there are some correlations that have been made between SIDS and the following things:

Male babies are more likely to die from SIDS than females

Prematurity makes it more likely

Minority children are affected by it more often than non-minorities

More children of young, single mothers die from it

Children who live in a home with one or more smokers are more likely to be affected

Some people say that sleeping with your baby can reduce the risk of SIDS, but the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree with this statement and go on to say that there is a greater risk of SIDS in babies who co-sleep.

Back sleeping is what most pediatricians recommend for babies to decrease the SIDS risk. The reason for this is widely debated between health experts. If you have concerns, talk to your pediatrician.

Kids & Baby Contest

Millions of babies are born each year across the globe to families of all different backgrounds. These babies will grow up to become teachers, doctors, lawyers, police officers, fire fighters, mayors, governors and others. But some of these babies, prior to growing up, will take place in a baby contest that judges their cuteness or their outfit. Hundreds of states, towns, and municipalities hold a baby contest at some point during the year, with some of them occurring during the holidays. Possibly the most popular baby contest that occurs today is the one that towns hold during their Fourth of July celebrations.

Fourth of July brings fireworks, streamers, parties, parades and a baby contest. Parents will enter their children in their town’s contest, which consists of dressing the baby up in Fourth of July garb or dressing the baby up like a young Uncle Sam. Some babies will show up at the baby contest dressed as baby soldiers, wearing red, white, and blue clothing, or carrying an American flag when they walk down the parade route. The baby contest could last one hour or a couple of hours, depending on how many babies were entered into the contest.

Some people feel that others should not ‘exploit’ their babies in a baby contest because they are being subjected to the media, judges, and other people looking at their cuteness or beauty at a young age. Other parents, those who enter their baby in a baby contest, feel that a baby contest is just something fun to do on the Fourth of July or during other holidays during the year. Not all parents take these contests seriously. Instead, they view these contests as a way have fun with their baby and enjoy their time together. There are hundreds of contests that take place each year solely for babies; some of them raise money for charity and some award money that parents can put towards their child’s schooling.

Is Your Baby Ugly?

Are you a proud parent of an ugly baby? Could you be blinded by love? How would you know, and does it really make a difference? Maybe you’ve got an adorable child, but how do you find out if you’re just blinded by love?

I maintain, that if you have to know the answer to those questions, you’re gonna need a little outside help. Proud grandma and grandpa are just not going to be your best resources on the matter, and neither will your close friends.

You can imagine my great relief when my first child was born, and he was just adorable. He had those perfectly symmetrical features, light brown complection, cute little nose, and big brown eyes. The only problem here was his smile.

Whenever Ethan rewarded us with a smile he looked more like an escapee the state mental institution; his big brown eyes became his huge bugging out brown eyes and his tongue shot out at a 45 degree angle to his mouth and was far too long.

How did I not see this?

Surely we could have benefited from one of the many baby photo contests as well as casting calls that were happening all over the city we lived in; San Francisco. I hear those people can be blunt.

Surly someone would have said, “Whoa there guys, you sure you want to go through with this? I think you must be looking for the voice over people.”

Alas, none of that happened and it was not until my son was four that I found the picture buried in a photo box, and cringed inside. I turned to my wife to ask who the baby was in the picture but thought better of it.

He is definatley cute today, so no harm no foul, as they say…In case you are wondering, we the proud parents of a gorgeous 8 yr old, still have yet to get ourselves over to the next photo contest or casting call; just in case we are still blinded by love.
